Primary Concern with Photography:

  • Vast number of toxic chemicals
  • Developer powders
  • Evaporating toxic chemicals

Powders used in mixing developer solutions are highly toxic. Special precautions must be taken such as local ventilation or the use of a respirator when dealing with these chemicals. It is difficult to categorize all the chemicals used in photography as they are numerous and often known under several informal names.

Though the specific danger of each chemical is not named here, this is definitely not an indication that they pose no inhalation threat. Because of the quantity of chemicals used in photography and the way they are used (such as in chemical baths), there is a high risk of chemical evaporation, causing the toxic chemicals to become airborne. It is strongly encouraged that, for your own safety, you read the ingredients, instructions for use, and any warnings you will find on the label.
